Let’s make music with KIMBA SORZANO!

Alliance Française is pleased to announce the participation of Kimba Sorzano for Fête de la Musique 2012 in Trinidad & Tobago.

Kimba Sorzano, as his aboriginal name suggests, is no less than a burning flame!  Blazing the trail wherever he goes, igniting your passion for music and crooning his way into your heart – this singer/songwriter prides himself on his clever melodies and ingenious writing.  With Soca music as his base he springboards into other genres – bringing to you a sound unlike any other, yet one that is hauntingly familiar. Sorzano writes all his material and also for industry giants like Machel Montano, Kes the Band, Michelle Xavier and JW & Blaze – to name a few.

Sorzano started his musical journey as a pupil of St. Xavier’s Primary School – performing and winning in the school’s annual calypso competition, in several consecutive years. This is where he first became aware of performance art (including stage movement) and got his first taste of being an entertainer.  Music stayed with him through his high school years at Holy Cross College.  There, he was instrumental in revitalising the school’s languishing steel pan side, which eventually placed second at the annual Music Festival.

Even though he continued to perform during high school, placing 6th in the Junior Soca Monarch Competition while a sixth form student, it was not until he left school that true inspiration arrived.  After collaborating with Keron Thompson of Black Ice Studios, Sorzano entered the ‘Synergy Soca Stars’ competition at the age of 20 with an infectious soca inspired groove titled “Put It On Me.”  Sorzano placed second and through the success of the song, he faced the choice of pushing forward with his musical career or exploring other professional options.  The choice is clear!

Now, with a bit of experience under his belt, he looks ahead.  Sorzano made it to the semi-final round of the Groovy Soca Monarch competition in 2011 and was there again in 2012.  “We aim to reach all types of people in different parts of the world and infect them with the sounds of our “feel good” lifestyle music.”  Kimba Sorzano is intent on taking his own blend of dance infused Pop/Soca tracks to the world – a sound he calls “Caribbean Contemporary.”
